The Linden Tree:  Drawing   These students were individually given arithmetic problems, tailored to their abilities, such as "Draw two plus three stars" or "Make four times two plus two of anything." The problems increased in difficulty as the student solved each. After enough arithmetic, the assignment changed to "Draw anything you want." This project was designed to make students more comfortable about arithmetic and let them see the correlations between that subject, pattern and design. It also gave them practice in working in a group while pursuing their own interests but not interfering with others who were pursuing theirs.
